DeKALB, Ill.— Northern Illinois University Vice President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier announced a multi-year contract extension for Huskie Volleyball head coach Sondra D'Amore.
 
D'Amore signed an extension that will keep her at the helm of the NIU volleyball program through the 2029 season.
 
"We are happy to continue Coach D'Amore's leadership of the NIU volleyball program," said Frazier. "Under her stewardship, the program continues to grow and build, and we look forward to more growth and success as we enter a new era in the Horizon League."
 
D'Amore has led the Huskie volleyball program since 2023. Under D'Amore's leadership, the Huskies opened the 2025 season with their best start since 2011 at 7–2, winning two of their three early-season tournaments. D'Amore guided an additional six athletes to achieve Academic All-MAC and four to earn CSC Academic All-District honors, totaling 9 CSC Academic All-District and 20 Academic All-MAC honorees.
 
The 2024 season featured seven athletes earning Academic All-MAC honors for the fourth straight year, with Crew Hoffmeier and Savanah Brandt also securing CSC Academic All-District recognition. Both Hoffmeier and Charli Atiemo surpassed the 1,000-kill milestone that season, with Atiemo reaching her mark against Bowling Green and Hoffmeier achieving her 1,000th kill in just two seasons against Miami.
 
In her inaugural 2023 campaign, she guided seven Academic All-MAC honorees, three CSC Academic All-District selections, and celebrated two MAC Defensive Players of the Week in Atiemo and Hoffmeier.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and belief from Sean Frazier and Matt Gonzalez to lead the NIU Volleyball program," said D'Amore. "As we continue to build this program, I have seen tremendous support from our administration, staff, donors, and alumni, which allows our student-athletes to succeed both on and off the court. I'm proud of what we are building and know this is just the beginning of the success we can have here. A special thank you to all who continue to believe in our vision. I feel honored to coach such talented young women, and we're excited for the future of NIU Volleyball in the Horizon League."
 
NIU volleyball will open the season at the Southern Indiana Invitational on August 28. Their first home match will be on September 4 as they take on Murray State in the NIU Invitational. The first Horizon League contest for the Huskies will be on September 25 as they travel to Wright State for a two-game series.
