DEKALB, Ill. – The 2026-27 Northern Illinois University men's basketball schedule is complete with Thursday's (Sept. 10) release of the 20-game Horizon League slate. The Huskies will open league play in December with a trip to Green Bay (Dec. 3) and a home contest against Milwaukee (Dec. 5).
Following its first two league contests in the opening week of December, NIU will step back out of conference for its final three non-league games before returning to conference action at Youngstown State on Wednesday, Dec. 30, in NIU's first game against the Penguins since 1994.
The Huskies will open the New Year at Robert Morris on Sunday, Jan. 3, in the first all-time meeting between the two programs, before coming home for three of the next four, beginning with Cleveland State on Thursday, Jan. 7. NIU hosts defending regular season and tournament champion Wright State on Saturday, Jan. 9 and, following a trip to Detroit Mercy on Jan. 14, will host Green Bay on Sunday, Jan. 17.
A trip to Northern Kentucky on Thursday, Jan. 21, begins a stretch of four-of-five away from home to close January and open February. After visiting Wright State on Saturday, Jan. 23, the Huskies will play their only home game in the five-game stretch when they host Oakland on Wednesday, Jan. 27. NIU is 4-0 all-time against the Golden Grizzlies, with the most recent meeting coming in 2019. A visit to Milwaukee (Jan. 30) closes the month before a trip to IU Indy (Feb. 4) opens February.
The home stretch of the league slate will see the Huskies play five of their final seven at home, starting with a visit by Northern Kentucky on Sunday, Feb. 7. Youngstown State comes to DeKalb on Wednesday, Feb. 10, before NIU travels to Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Home games against Detroit (Feb. 17) and Robert Morris (Feb. 21) will be followed by NIU's final road game of the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Cleveland State. The Huskies wrap their 20-game league schedule hosting IU Indy on Saturday, Feb. 27.
