INDIANAPOLIS – Tomasz Slawek (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) of the Northern Illinois University men's soccer team has been named the Under Armour Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday (Sept. 14).
Slawek scored NIU's second goal in a 2-0 victory to open Horizon League play on Sept. 9, the goal was his first of the season and the second of his collegiate career. The shutout was the second of the season for the NIU defense, which allowed just seven shots in the contest and only three on goal.
In the second game of the week at Oakland (Sept. 12), the Huskie backline allowed just nine total shot and only four on goal in a 1-1 draw. Slawek played the full 90 minutes in both matches
For the season, the Crystal Lake, Ill., native has appeared in all seven matches, making six starts, and is fifth on the team in minutes played.
Slawek and the Huskies will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Milwaukee in the annual matchup for the Lewang Cup. Kickoff against the Panthers is scheduled for 7p.m.
