DeKALB, IL – As the calendar turns to October, NIU men's soccer returns to start a homestand against Northern Kentucky. NIU Volleyball continues Horizon League play as they travel to Milwaukee before returning home for Green Bay while NIU women's soccer hits the road for a pair of games.
 
Women's Soccer
Thursday, Oct. 1: at Purdue Fort Wayne, 4 p.m. – ESPN+ | Live Stats

The Huskie women's soccer team heads on the road for a pair of games this week fresh off a 1-0 victory over Wright State on Sunday (Sept. 27) for its first Horizon League victory. Sarah Roy scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to lift NIU to the win. Alexandra Devory picked up her second shutout of the season in the victory over the Raiders. Devory currently has a 0.98 goals against average and a .800 save percentage.
 
Purdue Fort Wayne comes into the week with a 1-8-1 overall record, 0-3 in league play, while Cleveland State is also 1-8-1 overall, 1-1-1 in Horizon League contests.
 
 
Volleyball

The NIU volleyball is in action with a pair of games as they will travel to Milwaukee on Thursday night before hosting Green Bay for their first Horizon League game inside Victor E. Court. The Huskies (6-6, 0-2) dropped their conference opening weekend to Wright State. Ava Grevengoed led the Huskies with 18 kills over both nights while Autumn Flynn led blocking efforts with four blocks on the weekend.
 
Milwaukee enters the week with a 5-9 record, 0-2 in league play while Green Bay enters with a 9-4, 2-0 record. The Huskies opponents for the week will face each other during the week as NIU looks for their first Horizon League win.
 
Cross Country
Friday, Oct. 2: at Joe Piane Invite (South Bend, Ind.)
 
NIU cross country heads to South Bend, Ind., this Friday to compete in the Joe Piane Invite on the Burke Golf Course at the University of Notre Dame. Last time out at Illinois State's Redbird Invite (Sept. 18), Amelie Ojeda helped pace the Huskies to a third-place team finish as she claimed fifth overall, leading five Huskies in the top 15. Sarah Maggio finished 11th, Claire Helmila took 12th and Ella Spencer was 14th.
 
After competing over six kilometers at Illinois State, NIU returns to a 5K distance this week at Notre Dame as the Huskies return to the Joe Piane Invite this season after not competing in the event a year ago. 
 
Men's Soccer
Saturday, Oct. 3: vs. Northern Kentucky, 1 p.m. – Live Stats
 
The NIU men's soccer team comes into the week in a tie for second in the Horizon League with Milwaukee on seven points, just one point behind Oakland. The Huskies returned to winning ways on Saturday (Sept. 26) with a 2-1 road victory at Wright State as Katai Mukuka opened the scoring and Vance Sheffield scored was proved to be the game winner from the penalty spot. Sheffield currently has three game-winning goals this season, which is tied for fourth-best nationally.
 
Northern Kentucky comes into the week with a 1-6-1 overall record, 1-2 in league play, and hosts Bowling Green on Tuesday (Sept. 29) prior to coming to DeKalb. 
 
Women's Tennis

Friday, Oct. 2-Sunday, Oct: 5: Horizon League Individual Championships (Cleveland)
 
The Huskies get their first taste of Horizon League play this weekend, competing in the Horizon League Individual Championships in Cleveland, Oh. The singles and doubles main draw winners will qualify for the ITA Conference Masters next month.
 
Last weekend NIU dove into its fall schedule at the Gophers Invitationals, going 32-10 overall in singles and doubles through the three-day invite. Juniors Theodora Kousiou and Lucia Yecora each went 7-1 and 3-0 in singles. 
 
Men's Golf
Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 27-29: Badger Invitational | Recap
 
The Huskie men's golf team competed at the Badger Invitational to start the week, finishing sixth as a team. Craig Long led the Huskies, finishing in a tie for sixth individually as he was 5-under par for the tournament. Beau Petersen was 3-under par for the Huskies to finish inside the top-10.
 
Women's Golf
Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 28-29: Diane Thomason Invitational | Recap
 
The Huskie women's golf team concluded the month of September, competing at the Diane Thomason Invitational, hosted by Iowa. Dakota Tallent led NIU on the course as she finished in a tie for 11th at the event.
