2019: Team captain. Starter on bars all season, stepped in to start on floor in last two meets (including MAC Championships). contributor on both events to NIU winning first MAC Championship in school history. Averaged a 9.667 on uneven parallel bars as NIU’s leadoff performer on the event and had the third highest NQS on the team on bars. Tallied eight scores of 9.700 or higher, including season high 9.800 at State Championships where she tied for ninth. Posted a career-high 9.825 on floor at MAC Championships. Named to Academic All-State and qualified for the Dean’s List.
2018: Competed in the last five meets of the season on bars. Set career high on bars at the MAC Championship with a 9.825 after steadily climbing each week prior. Basara also competed as an exhibitionist on vault at the State of Illinois Championships (March 10) and at Bowling Green (March 17) as well as floor against Western Michigan (March 4) and at the State meet.
2017: Emily competed in one meet for the Huskies this season as an exhibition competitor on uneven parallel bars earning a 9.725 versus Eastern Michigan (Feb. 17).
2016: Did not compete during the 2016 season.
Prep: Trained at Ultimate Gymnastics of Gurnee in Gurnee Ill. with three years as a USAG Level 10 competitor. Qualified for the 2014 and 2013 Level 10 Junior Olympics National Championships, scoring a 37.225 in 2014 and a 36.375 in 2013, in the all-around competition. Recorded a personal best score of 9.450 in the uneven bars at the 2014 Level 10 Junior Olympics National Championships to tie for 21st. Won five straight all-around competitions in 2013 and 2014, including the 2014 Illinois Level 10 State Championships. Finished in the top five in every discipline but one. Her best floor exercise came at the 2014 Illinois Level 10 State Championships, where she scored a 9.625 to earn second place.
Personal: Born Oct. 30, 1996 in Virginia to parents Paula and Dennis Basara. Has career ambitions of becoming a writer. Admires Kerri Strug. Graduated Cum Laude from Warren Township High School. Majoring in journalism with a minor in Spanish.
