The first Northern Illinois gymnastics Olympian. Regarded as program's top six-event All-Arounder in era of Kurt Thomas (Indiana State), Bart Conner (Oklahoma), Peter Vidmar (UCLA), Ron Galimore (Iowa state), Phil Cahoy (UCLA), and Jim Hartung (Nebraska). Selected as United States Olympic alternate (1980). Toured nation as member of Team U.S.A. in five-city National Mixed Pairs Championships and competed at the Coca-Cola International Invitational at Wembley Arena in London (1980). Placed 13th with 110.10 All-Around total at U. S. Olympic Trials and 14th with 108.47 points at National Collegiate Athletic Association Championships as senior (1980). Three-time NCAA Championships participant (1978-80). Recorded personal-best NCAA All-Around finish with 13th place (107.50) as junior (1979). Placed among Top 20 All-Arounders for three straight years?20th (1979), 13th (1980), and 15th (1981)?at United States Gymnastics Federation Men's Championships of America. Led Huskies in scoring (770.20 points), won All-Around event 12 times in 13 dual meets, and captained team for Hall of Fame coach Chuck Ehrlich (1979-80). Graduated with four Northern Illinois records (1) vault (9.70), (2) parallel bars (9.50), (3) horizontal bar (9.60), and (4) All-Around (56.40). Took All-Around honors 21 times in 31 career Northern Illinois dual meets. Transferred from Oregon. Two-time prep All-America selection and team MVP on back-to-back IHSA state team champions at Hinsdale Central (1975-76).
