Compared to Julius Erving and David Thompson by ABA peers Artis Gilmore and Dan Issel. Known as "The Franchise" for two magical winters when Huskies won 38 of 50 and basked in national limelight. Cornerstone of 21-4 Hall of Fame quintet that beat No. 5 Indiana (85-71) and won Midwestern Conference title (1971-72). Produced 1,134 points, top two rebound seasons in school history (398 in 1971-72 and 426 in 1972-73), 46 point-rebound "double doubles," and NIU's first two "triple doubles" in 49 games. Twice team MVP. Voted First-Team All-Midwestern Conference and loop MVP as soph. Repeat First-Team All-District. Named Honorable Mention Sporting News and Fourth-Team Basketball News All-America (1971-72), plus Third-Team Basketball Weekly and Honorable Mention UPI All-America (1972-73). Ranked among NCAA Division I top boardmen (No. 4 at 17.8 rbpg. in 1972-73 and No. 5 at 15.9 rbpg. in 1971-72). Famous for Sports Illustrated full-page shot in DeKalb cornfield (11-19-71). Played on ABA champ Kentucky Colonels (1974-75). Drafted by NBA (Los Angeles Lakers) and ABA (San Diego Conquistadors). Led East Chicago (IN) Roosevelt High to 28-0 mark and state title as senior (1969-70). First-Team All-State. Tabbed on Tony Hinkle's All-Time Indiana Prep Dream Team with Oscar Robertson, George McGinnis, and John Wooden. Inducted into Kentucky Sports HOF and Indiana prep HOF with Roosevelt team (Deceased).
