Operated on baseline, out front, on corner sweet spot, and off dribble as 6-5, 190-pound southpaw swingman and All-District peer of Earvin Johnson (Michigan State), Greg Kelser (Michigan State), Joe Barry Carroll (Purdue), Ronnie Lester (Iowa), Kelly Tripucka (Notre Dame), etc. "Without a doubt," said HOF coach John McDougal, "Paul is the smoothest operator I've ever been associated with." Made First-Team All-MAC, MAC Player of Year, First-Team USBWA All-District, HM Sporting News All-America, plus Pizza Hut All-Star Classic national ballot as senior. Won league scoring title and finished No. 5 in NCAA scoring (NIU-record 26.7 ppg.), plus No.9 nationally in single-game scoring (career-high and NIU Division I-best 47 points vs. Western Michigan in 1978-79). Broke 30-pt. barrier eight times and 40s twice as senior. Reached twin-digit points 71 times in final 77 games. Picked in 10th round of NBA draft by Utah Jazz (June, 1979). Three-time All-MAC (First-Team in 1977-79 & HM in 1976-77) and MAC POW, plus repeat team co-captain and MVP (1977-79). Named on NIU All-Century (2000-01) and All-Time Chick Evans FH (1997) teams. Finished with at least seven school records season points (695), career points (1,749), season FGs (291), career FGs (751), and season scoring average. Played for Utah (1979-81) and CBA Anchorage Northern Knights (1981), plus nine years in Turkey (1981-90). Set Jazz single half point mark as rookie with 30 in 24 minutes vs. Portland. Inducted into Saginaw County Sports HOF (2007). Team MVP and all-loop at Saginaw (MI) High (1974-75).
