Historic Wins
From the Big Ten to the SEC, the Big 12 to the ACC, the Northern Illinois Huskies annually compete in front of huge crowds against the nation's top programs. Northern Illinois has collected "Boneyard Victories" -- upset wins over Maryland, Alabama, Purdue, Minnesota and Kansas. In 2013, NIU became the first Mid-American Conference school to defeat TWO Big Ten teams on the road in the same season. The Huskies knocked off Iowa, 30-27, in the season opener and posted a dominating 55-24 win at Purdue.
The Huskies have claimed three MAC titles in school history. Bill Mallory led NIU to its first championship in 1983, while Dave Doeren led the Huskies to back-to-back MAC titles in 2011 and 2012. Northern Illinois University has played in four straight MAC title games from 2010-13.
