The 360 Virtual Tour | The NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex Main Page
Though the rules of the game have been in place for nearly 150 years, everything about soccer continues to evolve, including the facilities and playing surfaces. Northern Illinois has taken the next step in that evolution with the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex. The $3.5-million facility is home to the men's and women's soccer programs, as well as the Huskie track and field team, and is highlighted by a world-class quality artificial soccer turf, which was built to the specifications of a FIFA 2-Star pitch.
Several layers underneath the playing surface help keep the field ready for action in almost any weather. When rain falls on the new turf, it quickly moves through the pitch thanks to a foot-thick layer of P-210 stone. A herringbone channel drainage system then directs the water to a retention pond, keeping the field ready for play even in the heaviest storms.
When the Huskies play at home, fans are able to enjoy amenities that make the gameday experience "can't-miss." The Huskie faithful enter on the northwest side of the complex, with nearly unlimited parking available in the Convocation Center lot. Bleachers line the east side of the field, giving up to 2,000 spectators a clear line of sight to the action.
In 2013, the complex received an additional upgrade with the installation of lights as the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex continues to be one of college soccer's premier facilities.
