In September 2023, NIU Athletics, NIU Foundation and NIU’s Division of Academic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion sponsored eight student-athletes from various sports to explores the beginnings of the black liberation movement in American History in Beacon Hill, Boston.  Read more on the trip here.




Guest speaker Jen Fry conducted several session with NIU staff and student-athletes during the spring semester of 2023 that invited participants
to think thoughtfully on topics like conflict resolution, perspective and teamwork. Hear what NIU student-athletes and staff thought of the presentation in the video above.






As part of its celebration of Black History Month, NIU student-athletes Charli Atiemo (volleyball), Billy Dozier (football), Madison Matthews (softball)
and Janae Poisson (women's basketball) gathered to discuss the impact Black History has had on them, their inspirations and more.
Former Huskie football player Miles Baggett served as host for this thoughtful and insightful session.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION TASK FORCE (PDF)

The Diversity and Inclusion Task Force convened in May 2014 at the request of the president and the provost. The task force consisted of 16 faculty and staff and was chaired by Associate Vice-President/Director of Athletics Sean Frazier and Professor Laura Vazquez of the Department of Communication. The group was charged with exploring issues that pertain to diversity and inclusion at NIU with the ultimate goal of doing the groundwork for the hiring of NIU's first chief diversity officer.
