Brayden Patton, a four-year letterwinner and two-time All Mid-American Conference offensive lineman for the Huskies from 2017-21, returned to his alma mater in January 2025 as tight ends coach.
Â
Patton spent the 2024 season as a graduate assistant at Wyoming, working with the Cowboys’ offense. Three of the players he worked with, including two UW offensive linemen, earned All-Mountain West recognition following the season. (Feb 9, 2024)
Â
Following a stellar playing career at NIU and a postseason appearance in the Hula Bowl, Patton was drafted by the USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers in February 2022. He played two seasons with the Maulers and was the team’s starting center for all 10 games – and a team captain - in 2023 as they won the USFL North Division and advanced to the USFL Championship game.
Â
At NIU, he was a member of two MAC Championship teams in 2018 and 2021, and played in 49 games over five seasons, serving as team captain in both 2020 and 2021. He started 32 consecutive games to close out his career, including 22 at center. He earned second team All-MAC accolades from league coaches in 2021 as a senior, anchoring an offensive line that allowed just 10 sacks in 14 games to rank second in the country. Huskie running backs posted 13 100-yard rushing games as NIU defeated Kent State, 41-23, in the MAC Championship game.Â
Â
Patton was a third team All-MAC selection in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season and helped clear the way for the Huskies’ first 1,000-yard rusher in six seasons in 2019 playing both guard and center. He started eight games in 2018, including the MAC Championship game victory over Buffalo.  Â
Â
He signed with NIU out of Edgewood High School in Ellettsville, Indiana, earned his bachelor’s degree in media studies from NIU in May 2020 and his master’s in sport management in 2021. Patton is married to the former Amanda Cook, a four-year member of the NIU Silverettes dance team.
Â
Patton continues a family coaching tradition as his father, James, is a long-time college assistant coach who currently serves as associate head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Miami University.
