Former Huskie fullback Pat McAvoy, who served as a graduate assistant for sports performance for his alma mater during the Spring 2012 semester, enters his second season as a member of the Northern Illinois offensive coaching staff. In addition to scouting duties, McAvoy will work with the offensive line this season.
McAvoy spent four seasons as a walk-on for the NIU football team (2008-11), and played in 20 games. He saw action in all 14 contests during NIU[apos]s 2011 Mid-American Conference championship season as a fullback and on the kickoff return and PAT field goal units.
A second-generation Huskie, McAvoy[apos]s father, Pat, was a member of the 1983 MAC championship NIU football team. They are the only father-son combination to both win MAC football championships at NIU.
The Cary, Ill. native made his lone career start at Buffalo in 2011 where he caught two passes for 16 yards, including a 12-yard reception to convert on a fourth-and-two in NIU[apos]s 31-30 victory over the Bulls.
McAvoy earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in business marketing from NIU in Spring 2011 and was a member of the Mid-American Conference honor roll all five years. He is currently pursuing his Master[apos]s Degree in sports management.
