Biography

2019
• Transferred to NIU after graduating from Cal.
• Appeared in nine games, starting eight.
• Amassed a team-high 2,130 yards on 166-of-287 passing with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
• Ranked fourth in the MAC in yards passing per game averaging 236.7 yards a game.
• Tailled seven 200-yard passing games, including a season-high 338 yards passing on 23-of-39 at Ohio (10-12).
• Established season-bests in completions (25) and pass attempts at Nebraska (9-14).
• Recorded his lone rushing touchdown on the year at Utah (9-7) as he flipped into the endzone on a nine-yard carry.
• Averaged 39.2 yards on four punts, including a season-long 46-yarder at Nebraska.

AT CAL
• Started 13 of the 14 games he played and posted a 6-7 record as Cal’s starting quarterback in 2017 and 2018.
• Threw for over 3,000 yards as a sophomore in 2017 when he completed 272-of-461 passes with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
• His 3,039 passing yards were the sixth-highest total in school history.
• Ranked 15th nationally in completions per game, and 28th in passing yards per game in 2017.
• In his first game as a starter in 2017, threw for a career-high 363 yards on 24-of-38 passing and four touchdowns in a 35-30 win at North Carolina.
• Earned a Manning Award Star of the Week and a spot on the Davey O’Brien Award “Great 8” list.
• Registered a career-high-tying 29 pass completions in back-to-back games against Arizona and at Colorado as a sophomore, while also throwing the football a career-high 52 times against the Buffaloes.
• Completed a career-best 80 percent of his passes (24-30) against Oregon State as a sophomore.
• Threw a career-long 75-yard pass at Oregon in 2017.
• Had a string of 116 consecutive passes without an interception that spanned three complete games and portions of two others between the USC and Arizona contests.
• Scored three rushing touchdowns, including a seven-yard score versus Washington State that ended with a full flip into the end zone to earn a spot on the SportsCenter Top 10 list.
• Saw his last action at Cal in the 2018 season-opener versus North Carolina.
• Redshirted in 2015 and played in the final drive of the season finale versus UCLA as a redshirt freshman in 2016.

HIGH SCHOOL
• Four-year varsity letterwinner spent three full seasons as the starting quarterback for Bothell after sharing the job as a freshman.
• Invited to the 2014 National Underclassman Senior All-American Bowl following his prep career.
• An Elite 11 finalist and participant at The Opening in 2014
• Won QB MVP honors at the 2014 Oregon Nike Football Training Camp
• Led Bothell to its first Washington 4A state title with an undefeated 14-0 record, including an 8-0 district mark.
• Completed 228-of-335 passes (68.1%) for 3,505 yards with 37 touchdowns and seven interceptions as a senior.
• Named first team All-State by the Associated Press and was an All-King County player.
• Top regular-season performance as a senior came when he completed 18-of-19 passes for 333 yards and five touchdowns to clinch the KingCo 4A title.
• Threw three or more touchdown passes seven times as a senior.
• Passed for 2,097 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior and led Bothell to the 4A state quarterfinals and a 9-3 overall record.
• Team posted a 6-5 record his sophomore season and fell in the first round of the WIAA state playoffs.

PERSONAL
• Celebrates his birthday on November 19..
• Son of John and Joanne Bowers.
• His mother, Joanne, is the head women’s gymnastics coach at San Jose State and spent 10 seasons in the same role at Washington.
• His father spent three seasons as an assistant coach at James Madison when the Dukes won the 2016 FCS national championship.
• Earned his bachelor’s degree from Cal and is enrolled in graduate school at NIU.
