Austin Black is in his first season as Assistant Director of Football Operations for the NIU Football team after serving as a graduate assistant in 2021. He assists in team travel, coordinating meals and other aspects of football operations with a focus on recruiting.

Black came to DeKalb in the fall of 2021 from Eastern Illinois where he was a football operations and recruiting graduate assistant. Prior to Eastern Illinois, Black was a football operations manager at Iowa where he completed his bachelor’s degree in sports and recreation management in 2020. He spent two seasons as an assistant football coach at Iowa City High School while a student at Iowa, coaching wide receivers and defensive backs.

Black received his master’s degree in sports management from NIU in 2022.
