Chris MacMartin moves into an assistant coaching role with the NIU men’s basketball team in 2020-21, following one season as the Director of Player Development and Operations with the Huskies. MacMartin moved into a full-time role following two years (2017-19) as NIU’s graduate assistant.
During MacMartin’s one season as Director of Player Development and Operations, the Huskies capture a share of the MAC West Division title, as well as a top-four seed in the conference tournament, giving NIU a first-round tournament bye for the first time since 2006. The Huskies were on target for just their fifth postseason appearance in school history before the year was prematurely ended by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a graduate assistant, MacMartin helped the Huskies to a 17-win season in 2018-19, tied for the sixth-most in program history, while reaching the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2003.
MacMartin joined the NIU basketball program as a student manager in 2014-15, working for the Huskies for three years as an undergraduate before becoming the program’s graduate assistant. MacMartin also coached the Hononegah High School freshman team for two seasons and has worked with the Hononegah program during the summer.
A native of Rockton, Ill., MacMartin earned his bachelor’s degree in Community Leadership and Civil Engagement from NIU in 2017 and his master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education in 2019.
