Professional golfer Jake Scott was announced as a volunteer coach by Northern Illinois University’s Director of Golf Tom Porten Feb. 2, 2016. Scott, who played on the Web.com Tour in 2014 as well as on the PGA Tour Canada, will work with the men’s golf program during the 2016 season.

The addition of Scott completes the coaching staff for the program allowing Andrew Frame to split duties between both staffs providing equal representation to both teams.

“Jake played for me back when I was coaching earlier in my career and he’s always stayed connected to me through instruction,” said Porten. “As he went through the struggles all aspiring professionals do, he expressed  interest in helping out as  a coach. It’s always been an interest of his and I think the timing was right for this year.”

Scott, who played collegiately as Cleveland State, was recruited by Porten to CSU and played one season for the Huskies’ Director of Golf during the 2005-06 campaign when the Vikings won the Horizon League and competed in the NCAA Regional in Chardon, Ohio at Sand Ridge Golf Club, site of the 2015 Mid-American Conference Golf Championship. GolfWorld also named Scott to its top-50 watch list prior to the start of his senior season.

The Strongsville, Ohio native competed in three total regionals for the Vikings and was named Horizon League Player of the Year in 2009 after winning the tournament championship that season.

Scott’s professional career started on the Developmental Tours, winning two events on the NGA Hooters Tour and another on the GPRO Tour Carolina en route to becoming the tour’s leading money winner in 2009 and 2010.

He then competed on the Northern Ohio PGA where he was named the NOPGA’s Apprentice Player of the Year in 2012, the same season he won the National PGA Assistant Championship in Port St. Lucie, Fla., at he PGA Golf Club.

Scott qualified on conditional status in 2013 for the Web.Com Tour’s Qualifying Tournament  and earned full membership in 2014. He competed in the Cleveland Open, as well as the Nova Scotia Open and followed up with an appearance at the Air Capital Classic in Ottawa, Canada on the PGA Tour Canada.
