Doug Barber

  • Title
    Graduate Assistant

Doug Barber joined the Northern Illinois men's golf coaching staff in January of 2011. The Willoughby, Ohio native rejoins his former coach at Cleveland State, current Huskies head coach Tom Porten, in the role of graduate assistant.

Barber spent his time since graduating CSU with his bachelor of arts in math teaching algebra and geometry in Ohio high schools. After school he has served as head freshman boys basketball coach at Willoughby High School, a position he's held since 2008.

Barber shifts gears during the summer, returning back to Lost Nation Golf Course in Willoughby to teach children how to play the game. He has held the role of camp assistant since 2005. Through the weekly clinics, Barber helps inspire a lifelong love of golf in children.

As a player, Barber anchored the Cleveland State golf team for four seasons. His greatest accomplishment may have come his freshman season, when he captured the individual Horizon League championship in 2005. Barber (71-72-73--216) grinded out an even-par performance at Royal American Links, good enough for a three-stroke victory. Over his following seasons at CSU, Barber led the team to its first two Horizon League championships, was named 1st Team All-Horizon League, and earned medalist honors at the 2008 Wright State Norm Bullock Invitational.
