Michael Tringali begins his first season as an assistant coach with the Northern Illinois University men’s soccer team, working primarily with the goalkeepers. Prior to his arrival at NIU, Tringali served as an assistant coach at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va., during the 2018 season. In his lone season at VMI, Tringali helped freshman goalkeeper Broden Schull earn All-Southern Conference honors.
Before arriving at VMI, Tringali served as the top assistant for the men’s soccer program at Goucher College in Baltimore, Md. During his time at Goucher, Tringali assisted with all aspects of the program including: recruiting, scouting, practice planning, goalkeeper training and film breakdown.
As a player, the Glen Ridge, N.J., native enjoyed a four-year collegiate career at Stevenson University in Baltimore, Md. As a senior at Stevenson, under current NIU assistant coach Andrew Bordelon, Tringali earned All-Middle Atlantic Conference recognition and was voted the Mustangs player of the season in 2016.
Tringali graduated from Stevenson with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2017 and received his Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma from the NSCAA (now United Soccer Coaches) in the same year.
