Zac Brown begins his second season as an assistant coach with the NIU men’s soccer program in 2017. Brown joined the Huskie program as a volunteer assistant in 2016 before being promoted to his current role by head coach Ryan Swan in the spring of 2017.
Brown came to NIU from Lake Forest College, where he worked with the women’s soccer program during the 2015 season. Brown helped the Foresters record a 14-3-2 record, including a 9-0-1 mark in the Midwest Conference en route to a league championship; the Lake Forest goalkeepers combined to record seven shutouts in 2015.
In addition to his time at Lake Forest, Brown has worked with the Illinois Olympic Development Program (ODP), U.S. Soccer Training Centers and Big Cat Goalkeeping, while also serving as Director of Coaching for Northern Illinois FC.
Brown played collegiately at the University of Richmond and Loyola University (Chicago); he also trained with the Carolina Railhawks of the NASL and played for the Railhawks U23 Development Team.
A native of St. Paul, Minn., Brown earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in political science from Loyola in 2014 and his master’s degree in political science from Loyola in 2015. Brown holds a United States Soccer Federation “E” Coaching License.
