Mickey Bell

Mickey Bell, a graduate of Florida Atlantic, joined NIU in 2021 after spending two seasons as a volunteer assistant at her alma mater. She enters her fourth season on the Huskie softball staff in 2024.

In 2023, Bell helped the Huskies to 26 wins, including 15 in conference play, with a young roster that featured 11 freshmen. Kelly Walinski and Danielle Stewart each earned First Team All-MAC honors while Kiley Conner was named Second Team All-MAC and the MAC Freshman Player of the Year. Sam Mallinder and Stewart were both named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Third Team while Walinski received the Nan Harvey Award, given to a MAC player, coach or staff member who demonstrates commitment, leadership and toughness.

During her first season at NIU, Katie Keller earned First Team All-MAC, First Team All-Great Lakes Region and Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

The 2022 season saw Keller become just the third player in program history to earn All-Great Lakes Region honors for a third time (joining Missy Kaczor and Kayti Grable). She was also named a First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American and a First Team All-MAC selection. Keller finished her Huskie career with 72 doubles, tied for 13th-most in NCAA history. Sam Mallinder joined Keller on the All-MAC First Team and earned Third Team All-Region recognition.

Before joining the Huskies, Bell focused on catcher development during her two seasons as a volunteer assistant at FAU, while also assisting the pitchers on Joan Joyce’s staff.

Prior to her return to Boca Raton, Bell spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Eastern Illinois. During her tenure at EIU, she helped develop Panther catchers while also working closely with outfielders. Bell also assisted in daily bullpen sessions and hitter development.

As a player, Bell enjoyed a successful playing career, first at Lipscomb before transferring to FAU. A member of the ASUN All-Freshman Team, Bell also earned ASUN Academic honors at Lipscomb. During her three years at FAU, Bell helped lead the Owls to back-to-back Conference USA regular season titles in 2015 and 2016 and a conference tournament championship in 2016. She also earned the Conference USA Commissioner’s Award in each of her three seasons at FAU.
