NIU Career Best: Floor - 8.725 (at Central Michigan, 3-2-14) Bars - 9.875 (at BGSU/Alaska, 2-15-15)
2017: Carter specialized on uneven parallel bars this season in all 11 competitions earning a spot in the NCAA South Central Regional with a Regional qualifying average of 9.900. She averaged a 9.877 for the entire season, scoring a 9.800 or higher in every meet of the season. Carter tied a 20-year school record on the event with a 9.950 at Central Michigan (March 11). She earned five scores at 9.900 or higher and five first place finishes. The senior earned two Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week awards (Feb. 21, March 14) as well as MAC Specialist of the Year, All-MAC Second Team honors and Academic All-MAC. Competed on beam as a exhibition competitor earning a 9.675 versus Eastern Michigan (Feb. 17).
2015: After sitting out the Huskies' first two competitions, she put up 10 straight quality performances on the uneven parallel bars. She started a string of three-straight first place finishes when she recorded a career-high 9.875 at the NIU Tri-Meet (2-15) versus Bowling Green and Alaska, then scoring 9.825 at Southeast Missouri State (2-20) and 9.800 at Ball State (2-27). She put up scores in the 9.800 range at the State of Illinois Classic (3-7) with 9.850 and against Eastern Michigan (3-15) with 9.800 resulting in third and second place finishes respectively. 9.775 came at the IGI Chicago Style meet (2-15). Also scored a 9.775 at Western Michigan (2-1) and a pair of 9.750s first at Central Michigan (2-6) then again at the MAC Championships (3-21). Posted a 9.550 to finish seventh against Lindenwood (1-23) in her first competition of the season.
2014: Saw action in two meets last year, including an exhibition performance against Central Michigan (3-2). Posted an 8.725 on the floor exercise in her only official event at the Eagle Invitational hosted by Eastern Michigan (3-8). Turned in a 9.550 against Central Michigan and 9.725 on the bars at the Eagle Invitational in exhibition action.
Prep: Level 10 gymnast for two years out of Splitz Gymnastics Academy in Canton, Mich. Advanced to the Region 5 Championships in 2012 where she tied for fourth on uneven parallel bars with a 9.375. Fourth on floor exercise at the 2013 Battle of Champions with a score of 9.250 and earned her top all-around score of the year with a 35.150 at that meet. Recorded a pair of runner-up finishes on bars - at the WOGA Classic and the Splitz Super Bowl Invite - in 2012, scoring 9.475 and 9.250, respectively. Also fifth on the event at the Twistars Invitational with a 9.225. Top Level 10 scores include a 9.475 on bars, a 9.250 on floor and a 9.175 on balance beam. Won the uneven parallel bars event at the Level 9 National Championship in 2011 with a 9.525 after taking second in the region on the event. Also fourth in the all-around at the Michigan State Championships in 2011 as a Level 9 gymnast. Won five bars, two beam and two all-around titles that season competing for Gym America. Swept bars, beam and all-around at the Wolverine Classic and the Buckeye Classic. Received the NAACP Achievement Award as a student at Ann Arbor's Huron High School.
Personal: Daughter of Tina Matter and Perseus Carter. Birthday is December 24th. Born in Warren, Mich. Comes from a family of gymnasts as her mother was on the team at Michigan and her older sister, Cepeda, was a gymnast at Western Michigan. Plans to major in early childhood studies. Spent time volunteering at a local soup kitchen in high school.
