Biography
Prior to NIU:
Competed in three cross country and two track & field seasons at Purdue, advancing to the NCAA Cross Country Championships as a junior in 2015, qualifying for the 2014 NCAA East Preliminary Round in the steeplechase as a sophomore in 2014 and earning Academic All-Big Ten honors with the Boilermakers...earned a spot on the USA Junior World Championships Team in the summer of 2014 in the steeplechase...competed at two Big Ten Championships in both cross country and track & field.
High School:
Four-year letterwinner in track and field and cross country...also played basketball as a freshman and sophomore...qualified for states as a senior in the two mile, mile, and the 4x800m relay...finished eighth in the state in the mile as a senior...was all-conference in cross country and track as a junior and senior...was named the MVP of her track and cross country teams in her final prep year...was named Most Valuable Distance runner as a junior...cross country team finished second in the state when she was a junior and seventh as a senior...qualified for states as a junior in the mile, 4x400m and 4x800m relays...was a part of the state championships winning 4x800m relay team that set the state record by breaking the 9:00 mark...named all state that year...broke the five minute mile as a junior...was named the MVP of her sophomore basketball team...cross country team finished third in the state her freshman and sophomore years...finished second in the state as a sophomore in the 4x800m relay...all-conference and all-state in track as a sophomore and all-conference in cross country.
Personal:
Born Feb. 18, 1995 to parents Carl and Theresa Schmelzle...has three older sisters, Jacque, Jill and Audrey, and two brothers-in-law, Kevin and Brian...majoring in psychology at NIU with a goal of entering the medical field...enjoys dancing, singing, country music and all sports including waterskiing and hiking.
