Former Georgia Tech star and Olivet College (Mich.) head coach Lynnette (Moster) Summins comes into her fifth season on the NIU staff in 2016. Summins is the team's recruiting and traveling coordinator and works with the outside hitters and defensive specialists.
In her capacity at NIU, she mentored AVCA All-American and All-Midwest Region selection Mackenzie Roddy in 2014, as well as Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and All-Region honoree T’ara Austin in 2015. The Huskies led the MAC in hitting percentage in 2015 and finished the season amongst the top-50 in the country with a clip of .250.
Along with helping six players All-MAC honors and three others to All-MAC Tournament accolades, Northern Illinois University has won MAC West Division Championships in 2014 and 2015, a MAC Regular Season title in 2015 and two MAC Tournament Final appearances (2012 and 2015) in her previous four seasons with the Huskies.
As an outside hitter with the Yellow Jackets from 2001-04, Summins was the school and Atlantic Coast Conference's first three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American and was named the 2004 ACC Player of the Year and 2002 ACC Tournament MVP. In 2002-03, she was named Georgia Tech Female Athlete of the Year. The Yellow Jacket second career leader in kills (1,859) ranks in the Tech career top 10 in kills per game, digs, aces, and attack percentage. She also led the Yellow Jackets deep into the NCAA Tournament twice, reaching the Elite 8 in 2003 and Sweet 16 in 2004. She graduated with a bachelor of science in management with a concentration in marketing in 2006. Summins was inducted into the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.
Additionally, Summins has played professionally in Puerto Rico (Gigantes de Carolina, 2005) and has trained with the U.S. National Team as an outside hitter and libero under 2008 Olympic silver medalist coach Jenny Lang Ping.
The Liberty, Ind. native's coaching career includes club experience as well as three collegiate stops. Her first collegiate job came as an assistant for the University at Albany (N.Y.) in 2007-08. As recruiting coordinator and all-around coach, she helped Albany win the 2007 America East Conference Tournament and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
From 2008-2010, Summins served as assistant coach for Georgetown. With the Hoyas, she was the recruiting, travel, and equipment coordinator and worked with team defense, serve-receive, and the outside hitters. She played an instrumental role in turning a 4-24 team into a 15-14 team in her first season. Her first recruiting class was also ranked in the top 100 in the country.
Most recently, Summins was the head coach at Olivet College from 2010-2012. Running nearly every facet of the program, she accomplished the school's second best season in history in 2010 with Olivet's first double-digit win total (12-15, 7-10 MIAA) in 25 years. Not only were her team's successful on the court, they also held over a 3.2 GPA over two years.
The club experience Summins has gathered spreads wide across the eastern part of the country. In Atlanta, she helped coach the A5's travel team. Her North Country Albany Juniors in Albany, N.Y. qualified for the Club Division of the USA Junior Championships. In Washington D.C., her Metro American squad qualified for the National Division of the USA Junior Championships. In Kalamazoo, Mich., she helped Dead Frog/Far Out finish ninth at the 2011 AAU Championships.
