Joe Davidson is in his sixth season as an assistant coach for the NIU volleyball program. Davidson was elevated to a full-time role in 2017 following two seasons working as Technical Coordinator for the Huskies. In his first season in 2017, the Huskies had a pair of First Team All-MAC selections. In 2018, NIU had another pair of First Team All-MAC picks as the Huskies reached the MAC Tournament.
In two seasons as Technical Coordinator, Davidson helped the Huskies to a combined 44-17 mark and a pair of Mid-American Conference regular season titles. In 2016, NIU posted a 25-6 overall record and won the MAC Tournament title, earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament.Â
Along with his work with the Huskies, Davidson also was the head girls coach at Fusion Volleyball Club in the spring of 2017, guiding the 17 Silver national team to a runner-up finish at the 2017 AAU National Championships.Â
Prior to joining the staff at NIU, Davidson spent two years working as an assistant with the Lake Park High School varsity boys program. In 2014, his first season at Lake Park, Davidson helped the Lancers to a 33-8 overall record and a fourth-place state finish, the best in school history. The following season Lake Park won 19 matches and earned a fifth-place state finish.Â
Davidson began his collegiate coaching career at Elmhurst College in 2014, helping the nationally-ranked Bluejays to a 31-9 record and the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Davidson’s coaching career also includes time with Pipeline Volleyball Club and Zenith Volleyball Academy, as well as a season as the freshman coach at Barrington High School.Â
As a player, Davidson helped the Ohio State club team to a fifth-place finish at the NCVF National Championships and has been a part of three top-10 finishers in the USAV Men’s National Championships.Â
Davidson earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from NIU in 2017.Â
