Former Huskie second baseman Marvin Sanchez joined the Northern Illinois coaching staff in January 2013 as the team[apos]s third assistant, working with the infield and serving as the team[apos]s first base coach while he works on his Master[apos]s degree. Sanchez played for Head Coach Ed Mathey and Assistant Coach Tom Carcione in his days with the Huskies.

Sanchez, a Chicago native who attended Clemente Academy, played four seasons with the Huskies from 2008-11 with 106 appearances during his career with 51 starts between second base and shortstop.

The former Huskie was a part of two Mid-American Conference Tournament teams at Northern Illinois and was also a member of the NIU squad that defeated Mississippi State and No. 15 Missouri in 2009. During his senior year, NIU started the season 0-10 and went on to finish 30-27 to finish second in the MAC West and earn a championship berth.

Sanchez earned his bachelor[apos]s degree from NIU in the spring of 2012 in sociology. He is pursuing his master[apos]s degree in sport[apos]s management at Northern Illinois, and also teaches undergrad courses at NIU.
