The Huskies[apos] new assistant coach, Kyle Murphy, comes to NIU to begin his collegiate coaching career after completing a highly-successful tenure on the golf team at Marquette University. In addition to working with the Northern Illinois men[apos]s golfers on the course, Murphy also will have responsibilities in the areas of recruiting, fundraising and strength and conditioning. Murphy ranks fifth on Marquette[apos]s career scoring average list with a 75.15 mark. His four-year collegiate career included multiple top 10 finishes, including a pair of runner-up placements at Marshall and Georgetown as a senior. Murphy ranks third all-time in Golden Eagle history with 31 rounds under par. As an amateur, Murphy recorded numerous top 10 finishes in Wisconsin State Amateur matches. He qualified for and played in the 2006 U.S Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. The Eau Claire, Wisc. native was featured in the May 23, 2005 edition of Sports Illustrated for his infamous Marquette Golden Eagle tattoo. A 2006 graduate of Marquette in communications, Murphy is currently working on a master[apos]s degree in sports management at NIU.
