CLEVELAND – Junior guard
Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) of the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team, announced by the league office on Monday.
The second-leading scorer in the MAC, and 54th nationally, at 19.6 points per game, German has scored in double figures 27 times this season, including 15 games of 20-or-more points. The Gary, Ind., native also ranks fifth in the MAC, and 51st in the country, in three-point percentage, shooting 40.2 percent from beyond the arc, and ranks third in the MAC, and 75th in the nation, with 2.71 three-pointers per game. German's 76 three-point field goals this season is the third-best in a single-season in NIU history.
German eclipsed the 1,000-point mark on November 24 against James Madison and currently ranks eighth in school history with 1,488 career points.
In addition to his scoring, German is averaging 4.6 defensive rebounds per game, 13th-best in the MAC, a number that increases to 5.1 per contest in league play, ninth-best in the conference. He posted his first career double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in NIU's win over 14th-ranked Buffalo on January 22.
German, who also earned All-MAC Second Team honors a season ago, is just the 12th player in NIU history to earn All-MAC honors twice, and the first since
Marin Maric was named to the All-MAC Third Team in 2016 and 2017. Just two Huskies, Paul Dawkins and Allen Rayhorn, have earned All-MAC honors three times.
German and the Huskies host Ohio tonight at 8 p.m., in the First Round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
