NIU Women's Tennis suffers third consecutive loss with 7-0 defeat at hands of Western Michigan
DeKALB, IL---Western Michigan University set the tone early and never let up on its way to handing Northern Illinois University a 7-0 defeat in Mid-American Conference women's tennis action at NIU's West Campus Courts Saturday (Apr. 2).

Northern Illinois falls to 4-6 on the season with an 0-3 reocrd in MAC play after suffering its third straight loss. Western Michigan---ranked 51st in the nation according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association---wins its third consecutive match and improves to 11-5, 3-0 MAC.

WMU swept the doubles point to start the afternoon with a pair of 8-3 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Ivonne Andrade (San Luis Potosi, Mexico / Instituto Lomos de Real) and Christy Svetlic (Kansas City, MO / Park Hill South) came close to taking the match at No. 1 doubles before eventually falling to Maelynn Bernosky and Malena Remynse 8-6.

Singles play provided no such close-calls as the Broncos took every match in straight sets. Svetlic was the only Huskie to win more than four games in a set, losing to Carrie Jeanmaire 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3.

With the toughest portion of its regular-season schedule behind them, the Huskies will look to get back on the winning track Friday (Apr. 8) with a trip to the University at Buffalo. First serve is slated for 1:00 p.m. (EDT).
