Northern Illinois - Central Michigan Post Game Notes

Nov. 17, 2006

Recap |  Final Stats

***With 203 rushing yards on 27 carries and three scores, Garrett Wolfe broke the Northern Illinois career record for rushing yards previously held by Michael Turner (2000-2003). Wolfe has 4,972 yards on 760 carries in his 31-game career. He has averaged 160.4 rushing yards per game and 6.5 yards per carry over his three-year career. Turner ran for 4,941 on 940 carries in four seasons for NIU. Wolfe also moved into second place on the Mid-American Conference career rushing chart, passing Turner. He now trails only Travis Prentice of Miami (5,596 yards from 1996-99) in MAC career rushing yards. He is fourth on the MAC's career all-purpose list with 5,781 yards, passing Miami's George Swan (5,727 from 1983-86).

***Wolfe recorded his 21st career 100-yard rushing day and his 10th career 200-yard game. In the process, he tied the school record for career 100-yard games (held by Turner), and recorded his first 100-yard day since the Miami game on Oct. 8. It was Wolfe's seventh 100-yard and third 200-plus yard rushing day of the season.

***Northern Illinois tailback Garrett Wolfe scored three touchdowns to move into third place on the Mid-American Conference career list for rushing TDs. Wolfe now has 56 career touchdowns and 51 career rushing scores. With 18 rushing TDs this year, Wolfe has tied for the second-most rushing scores in a single season by NIU. The single season TDs record is 19, done three times (Stacey Robinson in 1989 and 1990 and Michael Turner in 2002).

***With 33 carries Friday, Garrett Wolfe has moved into third place on the Northern Illinois career chart for rushing attempts with 760, passing the mark of 744 by Mark Kellar (1971-73). Wolfe is still far behind the record held by Michael Turner (940 carries, 2000-03) and the second place mark of 867 by Allen Ross (1977-80).

***Northern Illinois intercepted two passes in a game for the first time this season with the pickoffs by Melvin Rice and Mark Reiter. NIU has just seven interceptions on the season.

***Dustin Utschig recorded 12 or more tackles for the third straight game and has had at least a dozen stops in four of the last five contests. In the last three games, the senior free safety has 49 tackles.

***Matt Simon, called into duty as the Northern Illinois punt returner for the first time this year, responded with a 40-yard return in the third period, the second-longest return by an NIU player this season and his longest career return.

***NIU kicker Chris Nendick has now scored in a school record 35 straight games. The junior kicker attempted two field goals, making one, and now has 43 career field goals; his 18 field goals made this season tie for the third-most in a single season while his 24 attempts are tied for the fourth-highest single season number.

***After holding Central Michigan scoreless in the first three quarters today, the Northern Illinois defense recorded five straight scoreless quarters versus Toledo and then CMU. Toledo scored a touchdown at the end of the second quarter last Tuesday, the last score allowed by the Huskies before the fourth quarter of today's contest.

***With a 20-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, David Koronkiewicz became the eighth different Huskie player to record a touchdown catch this season.
