OXFORD, OH - Northern Illinois found itself in a pitching duel Saturday afternoon at Miami, but was edged by the home team 3-1 in game two of a three game set at McKie Field at Hayden Park. The Huskies now stand 14-19, 5-6 in the MAC while the RedHawks hold a 16-16, 6-5 mark on the year.
Miami opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when Brandon Hillier delivered a double to right field that scored Ryne Robinson who earlier reached on a single and stole second.
The Huskies knotted the game at one in the fourth inning. Jesse Seykora (Owatonna, MN/North Iowa Area CC) doubled to lead off the frame and was brought home when Kyle Pettengell (DeKalb) singled to center field.
The RedHawks regained the lead at 2-1 in the home half of the fourth when Chris Nadeau singled home Jordan Petraitis.
MU added a run in the sixth when Geoff Orr crossed the plate on a fielder's choice for a 3-1 advantage.
Trevor Feeney (Channahon/Joliet Catholic) took the loss (3-2) despite throwing 6.2 strong innings with five strikeouts while scattering seven hits and yielding three earned runs. Graham Taylor (3-4) notched the win for the RedHawks after going 7.2 innings with one earned run on five hits while striking out five. Matt Long earned his third save of the year for MU.
Mark Badgley (McHenry) threw a scoreless eighth inning in relief, extending his streak to nine consecutive innings without allowing an earned run in MAC games.
