MADISON, Wisc. - The Northern Illinois's men's tennis team had a rough start to their season Saturday, losing to the University of Wisconsin 6-1.
Brian Livingston was the only Huskie to come away with a victory, defeating Wisconsin's Nolan Polley 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at the No. 1 Singles spot.
"We played ok," head coach Pontus Hiort said. "We had some guys that played well, some guys that didn't. We just need to even out the line-up for tomorrow."
Three of NIU's singles matches were decided in straight sets. Alex Friesen fell to Moritz Baumann 6-2, 6-2. NIU's Jimmy Chu lost to Wisconsin's Felipe Bellido 6-0, 6-0. And Huskie Alfonso Monroy fell to Gian Hodgson 6-0, 6-1.
NIU's doubles teams didn't produce any wins, with the combination of Alex Friesen / Jimmy Chu falling to Wisconsin 8-5; Adam Ford / Brian Livingston falling 8-4; and Alfonso Monroy / Diego Zegarra-Ballon losing 8-2.
The Huskies travel to Iowa City Sunday where they face the Iowa Hawkeyes at 1:30 p.m.
