MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Sunsea Shaw led the Northern Illinois women's cross country team with a time of 18:50 at the Mid-American Conference Championships, Saturday.

Shaw (South Bend, Ind./Riley) placed 39th at the five-kilometer event, and was the top-finishing Huskie for the third consecutive race.

As a team, the Huskies placed 12th with 289 points, three behind Eastern Michigan, though the Huskies ran faster average and team times than the Eagles.

"We were just three points away from 11th, which is better than we did last year," cross country coach Mark McConeghey said. "We didn't have a good race, but it wasn't for lack of effort."

Stacey Rosch (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) was the second Huskie across the line, clocking in at 19:08. Rosch was followed by Meghan Ginter (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) at 19:28, Denisse Valladares (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights Hershey) at 19:39 and Breanna Brevitt (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) who finished in 20:04.

The Huskies will try to qualify for the national championships when they race at the NCAA Regional Qualifier in Peoria, Ill., Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. (CST).
