Northern Illinois Falls 15-8 To Central Michigan Saturday

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Northern Illinois fell 15-8 to Central Michigan Saturday afternoon in game two of its weekend series at Theunissen Stadium. The Huskies now stand 20-15 overall and 9-5 in the MAC ahead of the series finale Sunday.

The Chippewas (24-13, 12-2) scored first with two runs in first on an error and a bases loaded walk.

NIU knotted the game at two in the top of the second when Danny Reed singled, Jordin Hood reached on an error and both came around to score on a RBI single by Matt Behren. In the bottom half of the frame, CMU had seven hits and took advantage of two Huskie errors in a seven-run inning, keyed by James Teas' three-run home run, for a 9-2 lead.

The Chippewas extended their advantage with five in the third, including a three-run homer from Sean Hoorelbeke before adding a run in the fourth on a home run by Ben Humphrey.

In the seventh inning, NIU's Joe Buonavolanto pinch hit and drove in his first collegiate RBI on his second collegiate hit, a single that plated Dave Reynolds.

The Huskies scored five runs in the top of the ninth, the first coming on a RBI by Buonavolanto, who reached on a fielder's choice. A single by Jeff Thomas set up a bases-loaded double by Brett Kellam that scored Anthony Maziur, Buonavolanto and Thomas to cap the afternoon's scoring.

Dan Taylor earned the win for CMU, improving to 5-0 on the year, with seven innings and two earned runs. Brandon Copp (2-2) took the loss for NIU after going 1.1 innings.

Tim Kamin had a career-high two hits in two at bats off the bench to lead the Huskies' nine-hit output. Kellam led NIU with a career-high three RBI.

The series wraps up with game three Sunday at noon CDT.
