MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Northern Illinois was unable to overcome a five-run first inning deficit and dropped an 11-1 outcome to Wisconsin-Milwaukee in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader.

The Panthers jumped ahead with five runs in their first at-bat, led by a two-run single by Troy Vesling. UWM added a run in the second on Grant Berkovitz's double and struck for two more in the fourth on a RBI single Berkovitz and a RBI double Josh Groves for an 8-0 advantage.

NIU got on the board in the fifth inning. Joe Buonavolanto doubled to lead off the frame and came in to score two batters later on Marc Besteman's RBI single.

The Panthers countered with three runs in the sixth on a bases loaded walk, a sacrifice fly, and the second bases-loaded walk of the inning to cap the scoring at 11-1.

Ben McClarey (1-0) earned the win for UWM with a seven-inning complete game, allowing seven hits and one earned run. Cody Beck (0-2) took the loss for NIU in his second career start.

Buonavolanto and Scott Simon led the way for the Huskies with two hits apiece.
