BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Northern Illinois University softball team was swept by Bowling Green State University, 10-0 and 3-2, Friday at BGSU Softball Diamond.

"The first game, the first four innings were pretty good," NIU head coach Donna Martin said. "Taryn Hagemann just had a rough inning, and then had a rougher inning. We didn't execute on offense in Game 1. Kate Greenough pitched pretty well in the second game. We had opportunities to put up crooked numbers and we didn't get in done. It was just one bad pitch in the bottom of the seventh."

After dropping the first game, 10-0, in five innings, the Huskies (20-25, 9-11) came out with a little more focus in the second game. The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Krista McPherson singled to left field driving in Jenna Mitchell.

The Huskies tacked on another run in the top of the fourth. Bailey Ouellette led off the inning with a double to center field. She advanced to third on a Randi Kreiter single. Michelle Nendza singled, driving in Ouellette to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead after three and a half innings.

The Falcons came back in the bottom of the fourth with their first run of the game, to cut the deficit to 2-1. That was the score heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Brittnay Hay started the Falcon seventh with a one-out single to left field. Greenough got the third batter of the inning looking at strike three and was one out away from getting the win. Senior Jeanine Baca hit a two out walk off home run for the 3-2 Falcon victory.

Greenough (13-12) went 6.2 innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits, striking out eight. McPherson and Nendza each went 1-3 with a RBI in the second game.

The Huskies will be back in action Saturday when they take on Toledo. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CDT. Fans can follow all the action live on GameTracker at niuhuskies.com.
