BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Northern Illinois women's cross country team placed two runners in the top-25 at the Illinois Intercollegiate, and finished sixth of 20 in-state teams, Friday.

Both junior Meghan Ginter and freshman Sunsea Shaw set personal bests in the race. Ginter finished the 5k in 18:31, good for 16th place, while Shaw recorded a time of 18:54, placing 24th.

"The course was more challenging than last week," head cross country coach Mark McConeghey said. "When you consider that, it was a very big improvement."

As a team, the Huskies scored 223 points, and placed all runners in the top half of the all-Illinois field.

McConeghey said the fast times may have come thanks to fast competition at the event. Other teams at the event included Illinois and Illinois State, the No. 1 and No. 15-ranked teams in the region.

"The competition was harder, so they ran harder," he said. "Good competition brings out the best in young runners."

The Huskies will continue their schedule Sept. 23 at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
