DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois softball team finished the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament with a 5-0 loss to Florida Gulf Coast (20-6) and a 4-3 loss in eight innings to Mercer (8-6) on Sunday morning. The Huskies now stand at 4-2 in 2008.

Sophomore Kate Greenough (Portland, Ore./David Douglas) started for NIU in the first game against FGCU and took the loss, dropping her record to 2-1 as the Huskies were unable to push any runs across the plate to support Greenough.

In the second game of the day for NIU, senior Taryn Hagemann (Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle) lasted the distance, even pitching into the eighth inning, but did not receive a win for her solid effort as Mercer was able to score a run in the eighth to win the game. Huskie junior Emily Gooding (Lismore, Australia/Lake Land C.C.) added two hits in four at-bats as Hagemann's record evens out to 1-1.

Next up for the Huskies is a trip to St. Louis, Mo. for the Saint Louis University Tournament on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 when NIU will face Evansville (8-6) and Saint Louis (4-7) on each day. The starting times for each game have not yet been determined.
