Zips Blank Huskies, 8-0, On Sunday Afternoon

AKRON, Ohio - The Northern Illinois softball team was shut-out on three hits by Akron on Sunday afternoon at Lee R. Jackson Field, losing 8-0 to the Zips. The Huskies fall to 12-26, 6-10 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Zips improve to 17-33, 6-12.

Akron's Christina Swierz (16-21) kept the Huskie hitters at bay with a complete game shut-out on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts. The Akron offense provide plenty of support for Swierz by scoring three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth.

Senior Krista McPherson (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) and juniors Ashley Clement (Moline, Ill./Moline) and Dani Thompson (Canyon Country, Calif./Canyon) were the only Huskies to get hits against Swierz, leaving Taryn Hagemann (Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle) on the hook for the loss.

Hagemann (4-10) pitched three frames, allowing three earned runs on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

The Huskies Finish their regular season next weekend with a four-game homestand, starting with a doubleheader against Miami (Ohio) at 1 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 2 at Mary M. Bell Field.
