DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader with Miami (22-24, 12-8), losing 7-4 in game one and 10-1 in game two. The Huskies dropped to 12-29, 6-12 in Mid-American Conference play.

A three-run sixth inning was the difference in game one as Miami erased a 3-2 NIU lead with an RBI triple from Breanna Robinson, sacrifice fly from Alicia Hogl and an RBI double by Kimberly Williams to give the RedHawks a 5-3 advantage.

Early in the first inning, Miami plated two runs to take the first lead of the day.

NIU then took a 3-2 lead in the fifth with an RBI single from junior Jenna Roberts (Verona, Wis./West) and a two-run double by freshman Andrea Colosimo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg).

After Miami's three-run sixth, Robinson extended the RedHawk lead in the seventh with a two-run home run, giving Miami a four-run lead, 7-3.

The Huskies did score in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to erase the deficit as senior Michelle Nendza (Palos Park, Ill./Lemont Mt. Assisi) added an RBI single.

Miami's Meredith Linch improved to 14-13 with the win after a complete game effort, giving up four earned runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Huskie senior Taryn Hagemann (Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle) dropped to 4-12 after pitching seven innings, allowing six earned runs on 13 hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Both Colosimo and Roberts had two hits apiece, while Nendza had one for the Huskie offense.

The Huskies grabbed an early lead in the first inning of game two after an RBI groundout by Colosimo scored senior Krista McPherson (Beecher, Ill./Beecher), who reached on a three-base error.

The RedHawks tied the game with a run of their own in the third inning on an RBI single by Halle Popson and took the lead, 3-1, in the fourth on an RBI triple by Hogl and an RBI single by Williams.

The RedHawks then extended the lead in the fifth by scoring four runs, three of which came on a Robinson three-run homer. Robinson would add another two-run homer in the sixth to put Miami up 10-1.

RedHawk starter Shalise Lugo (8-11) earned the win, pitching six innings, while allowing only an unearned run on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Freshman Joreigh Landers (Vernonia, Ore./Vernonia) took the loss for NIU, falling to 4-7 this season.

Roberts and junior Emily Gooding (Lismore, Australia/Lake Land C.C.) had NIU's only two hits.

NIU finishes the regular season versus Ball State (33-29, 8-10) with a game on tomorrow at 2 p.m. CDT and Sunday at 1 p.m.
