MADISON, Wis. - The Northern Illinois University softball team dropped a pitcher's duel to Wisconsin, 2-0, in its final non-conference game of the season at Goodman Diamond Wednesday night.

Wisconsin (15-35) scored both of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ashley Hanewich led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Leah Vanevenhoven. Hanewich scored two batters later on a single by Theresa Boruta. Boruta, who stole second and advanced to third on a single, stole home to give the Badgers a little insurance.

Morgan Bittner Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) turned in another solid outing for the Huskies (15-34), allowing two runs on three hits, walking two and striking out eight. The offense, which had been red hot for Northern Illinois, struggled. NIU was held to just three hits after averaging seven hits and almost five runs a game over the last six contests.

"Morgan threw a great game," NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard said. "Clearly the offense struggled. We didn't get good barrel on one ball today. It's hard to win a game when 1-9 can't find a way to hit the ball hard."

The Huskies will wrap up their 2009 regular season with four road games. The first stop on the road trip is Kent, Ohio where the Huskies will take on Kent State in a doubleheader Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. CST.
