NIU Softball Team Falls to Purdue

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Northern Illinois University softball team suffered a 2-1 setback to Purdue at the Cardinal Classic at Ulmer Stadium Sunday.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the third, Purdue's (6-8) Liane Horiuchi hit a one-out triple to center field, putting the go ahead run 60 feet away. Horiuchi scored when Molly Garst reached on a throwing error by Adriana Sanchez to give the Boilermakers a 2-1 lead.

The Huskies (1-7) scored their run in top of the third inning. Down 1-0 heading into the third, Dani Parrish (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) earned a one-out walk and was driven in by Andrea Colosimo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) who tripled to right center field.

Morgan Bittner (1-3) took the loss, allowing two runs, none of which were earned on two hits and a walk in six innings of work. The Huskies conclude play in the Cardinal Classic when they take on the host No. 17 Louisville Cardinals at 12 p.m. CST.
