RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Northern Illinois University softball team scored a 1-0 victory over Idaho State, while suffering a 5-4 setback to Harvard in its nightcap at the Amy S. Harrison Classic at Amy S. Harrison Field Saturday afternoon.

Freshman pitcher Monica Segura (Santa Ana, Calif./Segerstrom Fundamental) provided her own run support in the game. With two on and two out in the bottom of the fifth, Segura singled to center field to drive in pinch runner Kate Welsh (Wilmington, Ill./Bishop McNamara) from second place to give NIU (3-12) the lead.

Segura turned in her best performance thus far, limiting the Bengals (4-12) to three hits and two base on balls in seven innings of work. Andrea Colosimo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) and Dani Parrish (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) each finished with multi-hit games as Colosimo went 2-for-2, while Parrish was 2-for-3.

NIU was looking avenge a 2-1 loss to the Crimson Friday in its second game of the day. With the Huskies leading 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth, Harvard placed runners on second and third with one out. Melissa Schellberg pulled the Crimson to within one on a ground out to third, driving in Ellen Macadam from third and tied the game on a Whitney Shaw single to right.

NIU began the eighth inning with a runner on second as per NCAA softball rules, but were unable drive in the go ahead run. Harvard (4-4) scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning when Kassy Shiotani, who was placed on second base at the start of the inning, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a fielder's choice.

Segura, who came in to pitch in relief in the top of the fifth, suffered the loss after allowing one unearned run on a walk and allowing no hits in three-and-a-third innings. Whitney Owens (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) started the game, going four innings and allowing four runs, all earned, on eight hits and four base on balls.

Northern Illinois wraps up play in the Amy S. Harrison Classic and its West Coast road trip tomorrow when the Huskies take on the host UC-Riverside Highlanders at 11 a.m. Central Time.
