WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
The Northern Illinois men's golf team shot second and third round scores of 301 and 324 en route to a 12th place finish at Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies (295 (+7) | 301 (+13) | 324 (+36) | 920 (+56)) finished 15 strokes behind 11th place and Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan. 11th-ranked Illinois won the event with an 854 (-10) at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex's Kampen Course.
Jeff Dick persevered through the weekend's inclement weather to deliver NIU's top performance for the fourth-consecutive tournament. Dick fired rounds of 78 and 77 to lead the Huskies with a score of 229 (+13), finishing in a tie for 44th place overall.
Paul Hammerschmidt (73 | 72 | 85 | 230 (+14)) shot par in the second round this morning and tied for fourth in the event in birdies with 11. Hammerschmidt finished in a tie with teammate Matt Triplett for 51st place. Triplett shot rounds of 76 and 83 to total 230 (+14) at the invitational.
Griffin Bauman (77 | 75 | 79 | 231 (+15)) finished a stroke behind Triplett and Hammerschmidt, to come away from the event in a tie for 57th place. Greg Pohlmann (80 | 80 | 90 | 250 (+34)) rounded out NIU's lineup, finishing in 66th.
The Huskies will wrap up their spring campaign with the MAC Championships April 30-May 2 at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
