MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After having last weekend off, the Northern Illinois men’s tennis team (1-2) returned to action tonight, falling 7-0 to Marquette (3-1) at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

“We got off to a bad start and just couldn’t recover,” said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. “We didn’t play disciplined at all today. We just beat ourselves. “We have to hold ourselves accountable and realize that getting beat like this isn’t acceptable.”

Marquette claimed the doubles point, posting 8-3, 8-1, 8-2 pro-set decisions in the three doubles matches. The Golden Eagles also swept all six singles points with straight-set wins, allowing the Huskies to come away with only 23 games total between the six matches.

“The one thing that we will do is come out and work twice as hard tomorrow, that I know,” Fisher said. “Our guys won’t accept getting beating like this. We’ll come out and work hard and be that much more focused and intense.”

NIU hosts Middle Tennessee State tomorrow at 4 p.m. CT, at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford, Ill.
