SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Northern Illinois University softball team dropped a 4-1 decision to Notre Dame at Melissa Cook Stadium in South Bend, Ind. Friday afternoon.

The Huskies (10-12) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Andrea Colosimo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) doubled to right center to drive in Nicole Gremillion (Missouri City, Texas/Elkins) from second, who reached on a single and stole second.

"We came out really strong," NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard said. "We needed to clean up a few of those defensive miscues in order to get a big win here."

Notre Dame tied the contest with a run in the bottom of the second and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI single Alexia Clay. The Irish (17-6) added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Stephanie Tofft (Lincoln, Calif./Lincoln) extended her hitting streak to 12 games with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Gremillion and Colosimo each went 1-for-3 from the plate, while Gianna Cipollone accounted for the fifth Huskie hit, going 1-for-2.
