MADISON, Wis. - The Northern Illinois men's tennis team wrapped up the first half the season tonight at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, dropping a 5-1 decision to host Wisconsin.

"We had some close matches tonight," said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. "Bryant had two set points in the first set, but lost in the tiebreaker, and Roman was at five all in the first. It was interesting there for awhile--we were playing with them."

NIU's lone win on the night came from Axel Lagerlof, who continues to impress during his freshmen campaign, netting his eighth win on the season with a straight sets win in flight three.

"We've shown that we have a talented team at the top," said Fisher on the season thus far."We were in two of the top three matches tonight in the first sets, whereas we were only in one of the first sets in the bottom three. That's how the season has gone. Our guys at the bottom just need to step up, but we've also just gone through the toughest part of our schedule with Middle Tennessee State, Illinois State, Marquette, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

"I think things are going to start getting better from here on out for us. We're about halfway through the season and we're 4-8, so we're going to start the next half of the season that includes conference, brand new."

The Huskies begin the second half the season on March 15 against Youngstown State in Jacksonville, Fla.
