FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Northern Illinois men’s tennis team bounced back from a Saturday defeat at Ball State Sunday as the Huskies (13-7) defeated the Mastadons (7-12), 4-3.
NIU claimed the first point of the match with doubles victories at Nos. 2 and 3 to gain a 1-0 lead. Frederic Cadieux and Jovan Zeljkovic muscled their way to an 8-3 victory at No. 3, while Dor Amir and Simon Formont battled their way to a 9-7 triumph to clinch the point.
In singles action, Cadieux and Formont won in straight sets to grab two more valuable points for the Huskies as Cadieux won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and Formont triumphed, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5. Northern Illinois’ final point came from Amir, who took a three-set, down-to-the-wire thriller from Daniel Kang, 7-5, 6-7, 7-6.
The Huskies will return to action next weekend for a showdown at Detroit April 12 and another Mid-American Conference match at Toledo April 14.
