NIU Football 2014: NIU vs. Central Michigan Postgame Notes

***NIU saw its 28-game winning streak at Huskie Stadium come to an end at the hands of CMU. The Huskies' last home loss came on Sept. 26, 2009 to Idaho. CMU was also the last MAC team to defeat NIU at Huskie Stadium with a 33-30 overtime win on Nov. 12, 2008. Central Michigan also ended NIU's streak of 24 consecutive Mid-American Conference wins. The Chippewas were the last MAC team to beat NIU in the regular season when they defeated the Huskies 48-41 in Mount Pleasant on Oct. 1, 2011.

***NIU fell to 4-2 on the season and is 1-1 in the MAC. The Huskies last lost two games in the regular season in 2011, when the Huskies finished 11-3 with regular season losses to Wisconsin, Kansas and Central Michigan.

***CMU's Thomas Rawls became the first player this season to rush for 100 yards in a game against the Huskies, and then became the first player since the 2009 season to gain 200 yards rushing. The Huskies had not given up a 100-yard rusher since last year's MAC Championship game when Bowling Green's Travis Green rushed for 141 yards. Rawls is the first player to rush for more than 200 yards versus NIU since South Florida's Mike Ford rushed for 207 yards during the 2010 International Bowl in Toronto on January 3, 2010. Rawls finished with 270 yards on 40 carries.

***Receiver Juwan Brescacin recorded both of NIU's touchdowns in the game, snagging a season-high six receptions for 76 yards. It was his first time in his career he recorded multiple touchdowns in a game.

***NIU linebacker Michael Santacaterina recorded the Huskies' first turnover since the fourth quarter of the Huskies' win over UNLV (10 quarters) with a third-quarter interception. Santacaterina recorded his third career interception and his 35-yard INT return was the longest of the season by a Huskie.

***Drew Hare threw his first interception of the season, and just the second of the year by an NIU QB. The sophomore had thrown 115 passes before being picked off at the end of the third quarter.

***Hare had a season-high 33 pass attempts, completing 18 to tie his season-high as well for 231 yards with two touchdowns. It was his second multi-touchdown game of the year.

***NIU ended the game with a possession time of 20:59, its lowest total of the season.

***The Huskie offensive line did not surrender a sack to Central Michigan. It was the second time the NIU offensive line did not surrender a sack in the game. The Huskies entered the game ranked 16th in the nation and first in the Mid-American Conference in sacks allowed.

***The Huskies' 110 rushing yards is the team's lowest this season. Utah State held the Huskies to 99 yards on 38 carries in the Poinsettia Bowl.
