NIU Football 2014: Postgame Notes

Nov. 19, 2014

Recap |  Final Stats

With the win at Ohio Tuesday, NIU has won at least nine games for the fifth consecutive season.

NIU's win at Ohio was the program's first win in Athens since 1982. The Huskies had lost their previous four games at Peden Stadium, including contests in 1984, 1986, 1998 and 2009.

The 2014 NIU seniors solidified their status as the second-winningest senior class in program history with their 44th victory (2011-14). The 19 members of NIU's senior class are now 44-9 for a winning percentage of .830.

NIU won its 14th straight Mid-American Conference road game, dating back to Oct. 1, 2011, when the Huskies fell at Central Michigan (48-41). The Huskies won their last three MAC road games that year and were undefeated on the road in the MAC in 2012 and 2013. NIU is 3-0 on the road in the MAC so far this season.

NIU freshman kicker Christian Hagan remains perfect on the season after making all three of his extra point attempts Tuesday night. In three games as the Huskies' starting placekicker, Hagan is two-of-two on field goals and 11-of-11 on extra points

Senior tailback Akeem Daniels scored his first touchdown of the season on a 32-yard screen pass from Drew Hare in the third quarter. It was Daniels' first touchdown since the 2012 MAC Championship game victory over Kent State. He sat out the entire 2013 campaign with an injury and was redshirted, and has battled injuries again in 2014, missing three games. Daniels scored the fifth receiving touchdown of his career with his last receiving TD scored in the UMass game in 2012. He now has 20 career touchdowns (rushing and receiving).

Sophomore receiver Chad Beebe scored his first touchdown of the season, and made his second career touchdown catch, on an 18-yard strike from Hare in the fourth quarter. Beebe finished with three catches for 22 yards in the game.

Da'Ron Brown's five catches for 70 yards Tuesday moved him past John Spilis into 10th place on the Huskie career charts for receptions. He now has 139 for his career. Brown also moved past Fran Cahill into 10th place for most receiving yards in a season with 880.

Senior tailback Cameron Stingily scored a rushing touchdown for the fifth straight game with a two-yard run on the first play of the second quarter. Stingily recorded his 11th rushing touchdown of the season and the 19th of his career.

With 43 yards Tuesday night, Stingily has 1,873 yards rushing in his career to move up to 18th on the Huskies' career rushing list. He is just one yard behind Jack Dean (1961-64).

NIU cornerback Anthony Brooks intercepted his second pass of the season

Paris Logan broke up his 12th pass of the season Tuesday night, moving him up into a tie for fifth place on the NIU single season chart.

NIU has now won 42 of its last 43 games when holding its opponents to 24 points or less, including a 7-0 mark in 2014.

Tyler Wedel placed three of his six punts inside the 20-yard line, including two inside the 10. He averaged 42.8 yards on six punts with a long of 50. None of Wedel's punts this season have gone into the end zone for a touchback.
